The town of Bedford Massachusetts, population 14,376 was incorporated in 1729. It is located in Middlesex County about fifteen miles northwest of Boston near the junction of routes 3 and 95 (128). The town is bordered by Billerica on the north, Burlington and Lexington on the east, Lincoln on the south, and Concord and Carlisle on the west.
The southern portion of Bedford is dominated by Hanscom Airfield and Air Force base. But elsewhere the town has many wonderful neighborhoodsin which to live, and Bedford maintains open spaces with rivers, ponds, fields and forests saved as conservation lands. The largest of these is the Great Meadows National Wildlife Refugeon the western side of the town. This is a stopping point for thousands of migratory birds as well as local wildlife. The Bedford Public Schools are well known for their excellent standards of teaching and offer extra-curricular activities and athletic organizations. There are a lower and an upper elementary school, a middle school and a high school. There is also access to the Shawsheen Regional Vocational Technical High School.
